1981

(11-22-81) Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets - It's the first time since 1969 that the Jets are battling for first place this late in the season. Jets QB Richard Todd plays the entire game wearing a flak jacket to protect a cracked rib; it almost makes him forget about his sprained ankle. Leading 12-9 in the fourth, Miami drives 75 yards--all on the ground--and is about to put the game away when Jet DE Abdul Salaam stops Dolphin RB Tony Nathan on a 3rd and goal at the Jet 2. Following the Miami FG, the Jets take over at their own 23 with 2:44 left. On the ensuing drive, Todd completes passes to seven different receivers as he goes 8 for 10 for 77 yards, the last 11 to Jerome Barkum between two Miami defenders for the winning TD with only :16 left. - (quality 9) - Added September, 2008

(12-20-81) Green Bay Packers @ New York Jets - The Jets defensive line, a.k.a. "The New York Sack Exchange" does it's thing on this day as their 9 Sacks of Green Bay QB Lynn Dickey lead the way to Playoff Birth (first for the Jets since '69) Clinching 28-3 victory over the Packers. The Jets victory also put the Giants in the playoffs (first time since '63) instead of the Packers in the NFC, so the Jets win actually put BOTH New York teams into the playoffs. OG Arland Thompson was inserted in the starting lineup, and the coaching staff, in all its wisdom, elected to run behind him on consecutive plays at a critical point in the game. Second and 1 at the Jets' 13 quickly turned into a fourth-and-2 situation. The only bright spot was Packer K Jan Stenerud, who set a then-NFL record by making 91.7 percent of his field goal attempts. He missed only two of 24 attempts (a 47-yarder in the first Minnesota game and a 28-yard attempt against San Francisco). Had Green Bay won, the Packers would have made it as a wild card thanks to Philadelphia's 38-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. (8.5 quality) Also have NFL Game of the week highlights from ESPN classic

(12-27-81) 1981 AFC Wildcard - Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets - The Jets’ first playoff game in 12-years. The Bills take a commanding 24-0 lead in the first half. Slowly though, the Jets pull to within four, and with 2:36 left in the 4th quarter, they start a march from their own 20; 2:22 later, the ball is at the Buffalo 11. Todd then misses a wide-open Scott Dierking in the end zone, instead opting to throw a jump ball to Derrick Gaffney at the goal line; Bill S Bill Simpson gets to the ball at the 2, and the Jets’ wild season is over. (quality 9) - added January, 2008

1982

(08-14-82) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Rich Campbell threw a four yard touchdown pass to Paul Coffman, while Eddie Lee Ivery and rookie Willard Reaves both scored on a 3-yard plunges, leading the Green Bay Packers over the New York Jets Saturday night. Campbell, who entered the game with 6:33 left in the second quarter and played the rest of the way at quarterback, completed 8 of 17 passes for 98 yards and had two intercepted in his most extensive action since the Packers drafted him on the first round in 1981. After the Jets scored on a 42 yard field goal by Jeff Brockhaus in the first quarter, the Packers took the lead for good on Ivery's 3-yard scoring run with 8:22 left in the second quarter. - Some halftime and some ads

(11-28-82) Green Bay Packers @ New York Jets - Phil Epps caught his first two NFL touchdown passes, but New York K Pat Leahy's field goal late in the third quarter stood up for the Jets. In the game, Stan Blinka delivered a forearm to Green Bay WR John Jefferson, which led to Bart Starr calling him a "hoodlum". Blinka was penalized, but not fined. - added June, 2007

(01-09-83) 1982 1st RD AFC Super Bowl Tournament - New York Jets @ Cincinnati Bengals - The 7-2 Bengals were the AFC’s No. 3 seed in the "Super Bowl Tournament," a 16-team playoff system organized after the strike-shortened regular season. It was the first playoff victory since the 1968 season for the Jets, who were the No. 6 seed. New York RB Freeman McNeil rushed for 202 yards and a TD against the Cincinnati’s No. 3-ranked rush defense, and he also tossed a second-quarter TD pass. Jets FS Darrol Ray set an NFL postseason record for longest INT return (since broken) with a 98-yarder for a TD in what was a particularly demoralizing fourth quarter for the Bengals. Cincinnati trailed only 23-17 after three periods, but in addition to Ray’s return, the Bengals in the final period had a 69-yard TD pass nullified by a false start penalty, missed a 46-yard FG, threw another INT, lost a fumble and allowed 2 Jets rushing TDs.- added January, 2008

(01-15-83) 1982 AFC Divisional - New York Jets vs Los Angeles Raiders - Includes Pre-game, halftime, and post-game (Quality 9)

(01-23-83) 1982 AFC Championship - New York Jets at Miami Dolphins - played in the mud - LB AJ Duhe picks off 3 passes as Richard Todd throws 5 of them in the game to send the 'phins to the super bowl. The game would cost Walt Michaels his job. (4 DVDs)

(12-10-83) Pittsburgh Steelers vs New York Jets - Bradshaw’s last game - Ten seasons before this game, a historic Jets moment—Weeb Ewbank’s retirement—was upstaged by another, more historic Hall-of-Famer moment: O. J. Simpson breaking the 2,000 yard barrier. Today the Jets play their final game at Shea; starting in 1984, they take up residency at Jimmy Hoffa Memorial Stadium. However, Steeler QB Terry Bradshaw, who until this game has not played at all in 1983, starts what will prove to be the final game of his Hall-of-Fame career. He goes 5 for 8 for 77 yards and 2 TD’s, and though he only lasts until the 2nd quarter, his presence is enough to spark Pittsburgh to a 34-7 thrashing of the Jets. The derisive Shea crowd that still remains when the gun sounds tears down both goalposts and takes home most of the Shea grass, only to discover that it can't be smoked. - includes half and post game (Quality 9.0)

1984

(11-06-94) Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets - one of the hardest hitting games in the rivalry; Jets win 22-17 as Buffalo gets to Jets 22 before time runs out. Game must have record for concussions. - added May, 2011

(11-26-84) New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins - added March, 2009

1985

(09-22-85) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Green Bay only managed 71 yards rushing on 25 carries. QB Lynn Dickey was pulled with three minutes left in the third quarter and replaced with Randy Wright, which had little impact on the anemic Packer offense. With no running game the Jets pass rush was furious all game. Milwaukee game - (Quality 9.5)

(12-14-85) Chicago Bears @ New York Jets - added March, 2007

(12-28-85) 1985 AFC Wildcard - New England Patriots vs New York Jets

Jets QB Ken O'Brien throws for 479 yards, while Marino throws for 448! WR's on both sides join the fun too as Jets Wesley Walker (6-194-4) & Al Toon (7-111) and Dolphins Mark Clayton (8-174-1) & Mark Duper (7-154-2) shine - Added December, 2007

(10-05-86) Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets - "Giving him the business" game - Includes Halftime (Quality 8) - added August, 2011

(12-28-86) 1986 AFC Wildcard - Kansas City Chiefs @ New York Jets - added December, 2007

(01-03-87) 1986 AFC Divisional - Cleveland Browns vs New York Jets - 2 OTs - Browns shocking come back 20-17 win over Jets in double overtime. Cleveland trails by 10 with only 4 minutes remaining, yet force OT. Cleveland's Bernie Kosar (33-64, 1td, 483yds) sets pass yardage record. The game had broadcaster Doug Deiken saying "...If you left thinking it was over, you'd better turn around!" and included Mark Gasteneau's game saving roughing penalty, this game had Brown's destiny written all over it. Great Game! (Quality 9) - one of the 22 games listed on the NFL Greatest games series list.

1987

(10-25-87) WK 6 New York Jets @ Washington Redskins - (Quality 8) - added May, 2011

1988

(10-23-88) New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins - Marino throws for 521 yds (3rd most ever) but also throws 5 picks, 3 in 4th quarter; Miami comes back from 37-17 down to 37-30 and has 1st and goal before Marino unravels - added March, 2009

1989

(08-12-89) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Preseason - Sterling Sharpe turned a shortpass from Anthony Dilweg into a go-ahead 49-yard touchdown late in the third quarter as the Packers beat the Jets. The Jets had a chance to win the game in the final minute, but Pat Leahy was low and short on a 44-yard field goal try with 17 seconds to go. Sharpe grabbed the pass, split two defenders, broke another tackle and outran a fourth pursuer to give the Packers a 21-20 lead with 4:34 to go in the third quarter. Dilweg, a rookie who played the second half, led the Packers on a 44-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Passes of 15 yards to Jeff Smith and 13 yards to George Cooper led to a 2-yard touchdown run by Smith with 5:53 left, making it 28-20. Kyle Mackey then drove the Jets 67 yards in seven plays, hitting Randy Tanner on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 2:56 to bring New York within 28-27. Out of timeouts, New York reached the Green Bay 27 on a final drive but Leahy's kick missed badly. Leahy also kicked a 27-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to make it 17-14, just as a thunderstorm drenched County Stadium. The storm delayed the start of the second half by 15 minutes. - Ads, missing a few plays (Quality 8.5)

(09-24-89) New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins - Jets come back from 11-pts down in 4th quarter to win 40-33; Marino and O'brien combine for almost 750 yds in air. Buch of really crazy plays, including TD's on flea flicker, 1st half hail mary, and blocked FG - added March, 2009

1991

(09-23-91) New York Jets @ Chicago Bears - MNF - OT - As most Jets fans call it "A Classic Jet game." Blair Thomas fumbled the ball with the jets up 7 as they were trying to run out the clock in the 4th, then Bruce coslett goes for the FG on 1st down in OT only to have Pat Lehay shank the chip shot and lose at the end with less than a minute left in OT. Incredible (quality 9) - Added September, 2008

(11-03-91) Green Bay Packers @ New York Jets - Remember Chicago. Pat Leahy did. Leahy, who missed a 28-yard field goal in overtime that cost the Jets a victory at Chicago this season, connected from 37 yards 9:40 into overtime. His fourth field goal, including a 22-yarder with 1 minute left in regulation, gave New York a 19-16 win over the Green Bay Packers. Moments before, Green Bay's Chris Jacke missed a 42-yard field goal. He earlier had made three field goals. The Jets failed to gain 1 yard on two short-yardage downs just after Jacke's miss. But Vai Sikahema fumbled a punt, Bobby Houston recovered at the Green Bay 23, and three plays later, Leahy, the NFL's oldest player at 40, won it. Ironically, future Packers GM Ron Wolf watched the game as a member of the Jets' front office, which he would be leaving in less than three weeks. - added June 2007

1994

(11-13-94) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Packers defense plays solid with great games by Bryce Paup and Doug Evans. The New York Jets finally hurt themselves with their bruising defense as Green Bay exploited the absence of injured safety Ronnie Lott. Brett Favre picked on Lott's backup, Pat Terrell, for two touchdowns as the host Packers defeated New York, 17-10, extending Green Bay's winning streak at Lambeau Field to eight games. Lott, who leads the Jets with 79 tackles, didn't play because of a pinched nerve in his shoulder suffered in making a tackle in last week's 22-17 victory over Buffalo. That snapped his string of 57 straight starts dating back to Dec. 3,1990. The Packers won their third straight game as they prepare for a three-game road swing that includes visits to four-time defending AFC champion Buffalo and two-time defending Super Bowl champion Dallas. Favre finished 20 of 28 for 183 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. - Includes commercials and halftime (Quality 9)

(11-27-94) Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets - Marino Fake Spike game - Another classic Marino vs Jets game. Marino has made a history of beating up on the Jets, but in this game the Jets take a 24-6 lead int the 3rd Qtr and look destine to take a share of first place in the division in front of their largest home crowd ever. Marino would relize who he is playing though and lead the Dolphins back and invent a new play in order to beat them at the end. The game features 735 passing yards between the 2 QBs. - added January, 2008

1997

(12-21-97) New York Jets @ Detroit Lions - Detroit secures playoff spot with 13-10 win lead by Barry Sanders (23-184-1) who goes over 2000 yards rushing and despite LB Reggie Browns near death horrifying injury.

1998

(09-06-98) New York Jets @ San Francisco 49ers - Hearst's Overtime Run - Amazing run by Hearst in OT. Jets would get the ball first and pin the 49ers at their own 2 yard line after a punt. First play from scrimmage Young hands the ball off to Hearst. Hearst breaks 4 tackles as he runs over, through, and finally drags Jets defenders for the score to win the game on a 98 yard run. - Includes commercials and halftime (Quality 9) - Added December, 2008

2000

(08-04-00) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Preseason - Added April, 2008

(09-03-00) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Mike Sherman’s first game as head coach - In Mike Sherman's debut as head coach, the Packers lost their season opener for only the second time since 1982 after Jets safety Victor Green intercepted a Brett Favre pass deep in Jets' territory to dash Green Bay's hopes of a fourth-quarter comeback. After taking over at their own 31-yard line with 3:20 to play in the game, Favre drove the offense to the Jets' 35-yard line with 1:08 left on the clock. On a second-and-three, he attempted to hit Bill Schroeder streaking up the sideline, but Green read the coverage and made a diving grab of the throw at the 9-yard line, sealing the Packers' defeat. In addition to the running of Jets halfback Curtis Martin, who rushed for 110 yards on 30 carries for the game, the Packers' Achilles heel was the number of penalties called. The Packers were penalized on 10 occasions for a total of 81 yards, and a few calls negated big plays for the team. - Includes commercials and halftime (Quality 8.5)

(10-23-00) Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets - OT - The "Midnight Miracle" - One of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, and certainly the greatest in MNF history! Jets score 30 points in wild 4th Qtr to overcome 30-7 deficit after three, then win it 40-37 in OT! QB Vinny Testaverde (36-59, 5tds, 378yds) throws 4 TD passes in the 4th Quarter alone! Amazing. - August, 2008

2001

(12-02-01) New England Patriots @ New York Jets - The hotly contested AFC East was a three team race between the Patriots, Jets and Dolphins. Entering week 12, the Patriots were in third place behind the first place Jets. Trailing 13-0 in the third, Brady hit little known Fred Coleman on a slant and he ran 49 yards taking the Patriots with him deep into Jets territory. Antowain Smith would score a 4 yard TD a few plays later to start the comeback. An Adam Vinatieri field goal would give the Patriots their first lead halfway through the 4th and the defense would seal the victroy with two late interceptions. (Quality 9) - Added September, 2008

(01-12-02) 2001 AFC Wildcard - New York Jets @ Oakland Raiders - added September, 2008

(12-29-02) Green Bay Packers @ New York Jets - Had the New York Jets' fans broken into chants of "P-A-T-S," it wouldn't have been a shock. In this wackiest of NFL seasons, the defending Super Bowl champions gave the Jets hope for the playoffs, and Chad Pennington made it reality. New England had beaten Miami in overtime, and then it was the J-E-T-S' turn. Behind Pennington's four touchdown passes, they routed Green Bay 42-17 Sunday to win the AFC East. What Curtis Martin called a sinking ship two months ago is sailing into the NFL playoffs. Not only did the Jets surge back from a 1-4 start, they knocked both their saviors, the Patriots, and the Dolphins from contention. New York (9-7) hosts Indianapolis next weekend. The Packers (12-4) blew a chance for home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs; the Eagles own that. They awaited the outcome of Tampa Bay's game at the Chicago Bears later Sunday night before knowing their playoff seeding. Pennington had touchdown passes of 18 and 12 yards to Wayne Chrebet, who has gone from goat after a late fumble in a loss to Chicago to the hero. He has a career-high nine TDs this season. Pennington also had a 1-yarder to Richie Anderson and a 13-yarder to Santana Moss. Martin ran for a 5-yard score, as well. Whenever threatened by Green Bay, the spunky Jets responded. The Packers finished the first half with a touchdown drive that was vintage Favre, but the Jets moved 60 yards in six plays with the second-half kickoff, ending with Martin's touchdown run. LaMont Jordan added a late 3-yard touchdown run Martin finished with 83 yards Sunday and 1,094 for the year, his eighth straight over 1,000. Pennington, the AFC's most efficient passer, had a 134.7 rating for the game as the Jets beat Green Bay for the sixth straight time. Green Bay's secondary struggled without injured Pro Bowl safety Darren Sharper.

2004

(01-08-05) 2004 AFC Wildcard - NY Jets vs San Diego Chargers - 15 minutes into Overtime New York gets FG to take 20-17 win at San Diego. Great back & forth game that saw the Jets win twice, the first time being waved off when LB Eric Barton roughs the passer inexcusably. The Chargers had over come 10 point deficit in 4th Qtr to tie it in the final seconds thanks in large part to the help of Barton's error. Then, they actually could have won it in OT, but some once again questionable Coach Shottenheimer conservative play calling helps lead to FG miss. New York's ensuing FG saves Barton from Jets infamy!

(01-15-05) 2004 AFC Divisional - NY Jets vs Pittsburgh Steelers - Great game that goes into Overtime! Classic back & forth contest that sees Pittsburgh jump out 10-0, only to see heavy underdog New York come back to take stunning 17-10 lead late into final quarter. The Steelers rally to tie things at 17, and then get help from above when the Jets kicker misses two FG's in the final two minutes of regulation! Pittsburgh K Jeff Reed doesn't miss with four minutes left in OT for 20-17 win!

2006

(10-01-06) WK 4 Indianapolis Colts @ New York Jets - Manning was at his best, leading 2 drives in the final minutes to give the Colts the lead and then the win. Ended on a crazy multi-lateral play by the Jets - Includes halftime and commercials (Quality 8.5) - Added July, 2011

(12-03-06) New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers - Jets coach Eric Mangini showed his team a tape of the "Ice Bowl,'' and fullback B.J. Askew ran around shirtless in pregame warmups to prove the cold wasn't so bad. Then Chad Pennington stoked the Jets' hopes of an improbable playoff run. Pennington, who snapped out of a midseason streak of shaky performances in a victory over Houston last week, put together three touchdown drives of 70 yards or more in the second quarter and the Jets cruised over the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. New York built a 31-0 halftime lead as snow flurries floated to the ground and boos showered down from the grandstands on a windy 19-degree day. The Jets used frequent wide-receiver motion and occasional no-huddle offense to confuse a Green Bay defense that has been prone to miscommunication and susceptible to big plays all season. Pennington, 25-of-35 for 263 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, connected with eight receivers. Cedric Houston carried 22 times for a career-high 105 yards and two touchdowns. Fans booed the Packers several times during the first half and loudly as they jogged to the tunnel at halftime. Green Bay barely managed to avoid being shut out at home for the third time this season. McCarthy called for a field goal with his team down 31-0 midway through the third quarter, and Dave Rayner hit a 34-yarder, a move that elicited sarcastic applause from Packers fans, a Midwestern version of the Bronx cheer. Brett Favre's season-long struggles with passing accuracy continued as he was 24-of-47 for 214 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. - added September, 2007

(01-08-11) 2010 AFC Wildcard - New York Jets @ Indianapolis Colts - Great game. Colts kick field goal with under a minute to go that gives them a 2 point lead. Sanchez plays great in 4th qtr though and Jets return kickoff all the way to their 46 setting up 3 good passes by Sanchez to put the Jets in position to win with a short field goal as time runs out. - (Quality 10) - Added March, 2011

(01-16-11) 2010 AFC Divisional - New York Jets @ New England Patriots - Jets trash talked all week leading up to this game trying to get inside the Pats heads. The Pats didn't say anything except for Welker's jab at Ryan's foot fetish which got him benched for the first series of the game. The talk seemed to work as the Jets handled Brady and the Patriots giving them 3 playoff losses in a row. - Includes CBS NFL Today pre-game show, halftime, CBS post-game, ESPN NFL Primetime post-game show (3 DVDS) (Quality 10) - Added March, 2011
