76ers @ Boston Celts - Celtics stave off elimination at the hands of arch rival Wilt Chamberlain lead 76ers, who this season are considered one of the greatest teams of all time, with 121-117 win. Boston's tactic
of swarming Wilt (only 20pts) works as Luke Jackson (29pts) and Hal Greer (28pts) cannot compensate, especially with super
sub Billy Cunningham (4pts) having an off not. For Boston, Sad Sam Jones (32pts) and John "Hondo" Havlicek (31pts) are unstoppable,
and Bill Russell puts on a huge defensive effort - 2nd half only.

Bill Russell and Sam Jones final game is a thrilling 108-106 win on Don Nelson's pop up miracle
shot over the Wilt Chamberlain lead Lakers. Boston jumped out to a 24-12 lead in the 1st period behind Sam Jones, John Havlicek & Emmette Bryant.
Sam Jones closed the half by hitting 2 free throws with 0:00 on the clock after a foul by Tom Hawkins giving Boston 59-56
lead. L.A. tied the score at 60 in the 3rd, but then went more than 5 minutes without a point. The Celtics used an 11-0 run
to take a 91-74 and Wilt Chamberlain picked up his 5th foul. Despite entering the final frame down by 15, L.A. looked to be
in business after Havlicek & Bill Russell each picked up their 5th foul early in the final period. L.A. had closed to
within 103-96 when Chamberlain injured his knee and left the game with 5:19 remaining. L.A. finished off an 8-0 run that closed
the gap from 103-94 with 5:46 left to 103-102 with 3:07 to play. After empty trips for both teams, Keith Erickson tipped the
ball away from Havlicek, but it went to Don Nelson. Nelson’s jumper put Boston up 105-102 with 1:17 to play. After L.A.
couldn’t score, Larry Siegfried hit 2 free throws to make it 107-102 with 0:24 left. A couple of Laker baskets were
not enough as Bill Russell & Sam Jones left the game as NBA Champs. - (4th Qtr only and postgame) - added October,

Historic Willis Reed game! Willis Reed made his dramatic entrance before the game during warm-ups and the Knicks
were never headed as they romped to a game seven win and their first NBA title. Reed hit two jumpers to give New York an early
lead but it was the other starters who poured it on the Lakers. Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley and Dave DeBusschere hit 15 of
their first 21 shots as New York built a 27-point halftime lead, 69-42. Frazier would score 23 points in the half and have
his best all-around game in a Knick uniform. Frazier either made or assisted on 31 of New York's 46 field goals. The Knicks
came out still smoking in the third and built their lead to 25 points at 79-54 with six minutes left. The lead would still
be 25 in the fourth before L.A. would finally start hitting some of their shots. However, it was much too little, too late
for the Lakers. - Also

(04-30-71) 1971 NBA Finals Game 4 - Milwaukee Bucks @ Baltimore Bullets - Milwaukee wrapped up the second sweep in NBA Finals history with a 118-106 win over Baltimore.
Milwaukee again took the lead early and never relinquished it as the Cinderella Bullets could not overcome despite a triple-double
from Wes Unseld. For the second straight game, Baltimore came out strong early. They took a 15-10 lead midway through the
first period before the Bucks awakened. Milwaukee then went on a 21-7 run to close the period and stretched the lead to 19
points in the second quarter. Baltimore closed the gap to 13 at the half and got it down to 60-53 in the early moments of
the third period. The Bucks answered with a 10-0 run to take a 17-point lead a maintained it through most of the period. Baltimore
cut the lead to 12 points by the end of the third but could not make a game of it down the stretch. The Bullets were again
hindered by the knee injury of Gus Johnson as he could only play five minutes. Other than playing 30 minutes in game two,
Johnson played a total of only seven minutes in the other three games. Milwaukee's win was keyed by the unstoppable Lew
Alcindor (27pts, and soon to
become Kareem Abdul Jabbar) and Oscar Robertson (30pts and near triple double) combination. -

(05-23-75) 1975 NBA Finals game 3 - Washington Bullets @ Golden State Warriors - Rick Barry (38pts) again was blazing in
the first half as he scored 25 in this game - two more than his 23 in the first half of game two. Washington was right there
but they couldn't build up the big leads that they had in the first two games. When they started to wear down in the face
of the Warriors' depth this time, they had no cushion. Washington was leading by two points, 56-54, in the third period when
Golden State exploded with a 15-6 run without starters Butch Beard, Phil Smith or Clifford Ray. Jeff Mullins, Derrick Dickey
and George Johnson played key roles in Golden State holding their lead. They led 87-77 in the fourth when they went on a run
to go up 97-83 with 4:47 left to play. Golden State coach Al Attles cleared the bench and Golden State cruised to a 3-0 lead
over the heavily favored Bullets.
(05-25-75) 1975 NBA Finals game 4 - Golden
State Warriors @ Washington Bullets - For the third time in four games, the
Bullets jumped to a huge lead but Golden State rallied. This time, Washington led by 14 points in the second quarter behind
strong play from Wes Unseld, Phil Chenier and Kevin Porter. Warriors coach Al Attles was ejected in the first half and assistant
coach Joe Roberts took over. Mike Riordan had been playing very physically as he picked up three fouls in 3½ minutes of playing
time in the first half. Riordan and Rick Barry tangled after Riordan's third foul and had to be separated. Attles came off
the bench to argue and was ejected from the game by referee Richie Powers. Washington held on to the lead into the fourth
quarter; leading by eight with less than five minutes to go. Golden State would not quit though as Washington fought to avoid
a sweep. A lay-up by Butch Beard gave Golden State the lead at 94-93 with 1:31 left in the fourth. Neither team could score
as both defenses forced turnovers. Washington had to foul and Butch Beard made one of two shots with 19 seconds left to give
the Warriors a 95-93 lead. Phil Chenier missed with five seconds left and Beard grabbed the rebound and drew another foul.
Needing just one to clinch, Beard misses the first two shots before draining the third. Washington would get a meaningless
hoop at the buzzer.

The Celtics turned back the Cinderella Suns in game one behind a balanced attack. The Suns refused to be blown out but could
never climb back from an early deficit. John Havlicek did not start due to a painful heel injury. However, Boston coach Tom
Heinsohn rushed Havlicek into the game with 7:24 left in the first quarter and Phoenix leading 10-7. Havlicek never came back
out of the game. Dave Cowens recorded a triple-double with 25 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists as the Suns had no answer
for him. Jo Jo White was only 1-4 from the field in the first half before going 8-11 in the second half to keep Phoenix at
bay. Phoenix trailed by two at the end of the first quarter as they failed to take advantage of 11 first quarter Celtic turnovers.
Kevin Stacom scored five straight points (his only points) to put Boston up for good 22-20. Former Sun Charlie Scott fouled
out against his old team when he picked up his fifth and sixth fouls in an 11-second span. (Quality 9)
(05-27-76) 1976 NBA Finals Game 2 - Phoenix Suns @ Boston Celtics -
Phoenix lost their 12th in a row at Boston Garden as they were run out of the game. After a good first quarter, the Suns collapsed
in the second and third quarters. Boston put the game away with a 20-2 run at the start of the third quarter that put them
up 72-43. The run was started by steals from Jo Jo White and Charlie Scott. Scott was 1-9 from the field in the first half
but cranked it up with 12 points in the third quarter. Boston again got out of the gate slow without John Havlicek (23pts)
in the starting line-up. Boston did not make a field goal in the first three minutes of the game and prompted Boston coach
Tom Heinsohn to rush Havlicek into the game again. The Suns get great efforts from Paul Westphal (28pts) and Rookie of the
Year Alvin Adams (19pts and 15 rebounds), but it cound not overcome a superior Boston attack on this night (Quality 9)
(05-30-76) 1976 NBA Finals Game 3 - Boston Celtics @ Phoenix Suns -
The Suns got back in the series with a big win at Veteran's Coliseum. Alvan Adams scored 12 points in the first five minutes
of the game to set the tone. Boston would rally in the second half though with help from some unlikely sources. Besides Jo
Jo White, Steve Kuberski and Don Nelson came up big for Boston. Phoenix enjoyed their largest lead of 23 points in the third
quarter before Boston mounted their comeback. Boston suffered a blow when Dave Cowens fouled out with 5:18 left to play. They
still fought back and came within two, at 96-94, with 2:15 on the clock. Adams then found Paul Westphal for a layup that pushed
the lead back to four. Adams would follow his assist with two hoops of his own to extend the Suns' lead to 102-94. Ricky Sobers
and Kevin Stacom were ejected after they fought in the second period. They had brawled earlier in the season back on February
13th. In addition to Sobers and Stacom, Celtics' coach Tom Heinsohn, Dave Cowens and Charlie Scott were also assessed technical
fouls. - Added October, 2008
(06-02-76) 1976 NBA Finals Game 4 - Boston Celtics @ Phoenix Suns -
Phoenix evened the series in a wild affair that went down to the wire. It didn't start out well for Phoenix as they missed
their first eight shots from the floor. Neither team could pull away in this seesaw affair. The biggest lead by either team
was Boston's five-point margin in the third quarter. Both Tom Heinsohn and John McLeod were hit with technical fouls in the
game. Phoenix was clinging to a two-point lead with 1:22 to play and Gar Heard's tip-in with 58 seconds left gave Phoenix
a 109-105 lead. Dave Cowens brought Boston within 109-107 with a running hook at the 50-second mark. Phoenix was trying to
milk the clock when Don Nelson was called for a player control foul. Boston wasn't over the limit so the shot clock was reset
and Phoenix milked the clock some more. Keith Erickson finally missed with 13 seconds left and Boston corralled the ball.
Against a frantic Suns' defense, Boston scrambled for a shot with Jo Jo White finally putting up an off-balance jumper that
was wide at the buzzer. - Added October, 2008

Unbelievable Triple Overtime game - Without a doubt, the most awesome, unbelievable game in NBA history! Intense from start to finish...Three overtimes!
Controversy! Referee Richie Powers is attacked by a fan! Havlicek wins it in overtime! NO! Wait!! There's still time on the
clock! So Phoenix ties it up! And on and on it went until the Celts finally win it 128-126 in the third overtime. Absolutely
incredible game and a collectors item!....Havlicek, Cowens, JoJo White, Silas, Don Nelson, Charlie Scott, Glenn McDonald (an
unknown hero!)...versus Phoenix' Perry, Garfield Heard, Ricky Sobers, Adams, Westphal, Van Arsdale, Awtrey...Voted top NBA
game of all time by writers, coaches, basketball historians! (Quality

(06-06-76) 1976 NBA Finals Game 6 - Boston Celtics @ Phoenix Suns -
The two teams staggered out two days after a triple overtime and it showed. There were only 71 points scored in the first
half as Boston walked to the dressing room with a 38-33 lead. John Havlicek made only one of eight first half shots and the
two teams combined for 16 first quarter turnovers. Phoenix pulled with in one point by the end of the third quarter after
being behind by 11 during the quarter. They took their final lead of the game on when Ricky Sobers went to the line and put
them ahead 67-66 at the 7:25 mark of the final quarter. Boston went on an 11-4 run to take a 77-71 lead as Dave Cowens (21pts,
17reb) and Havlicek scored all 11 points in the run. Charlie Scott (25pts, 11reb), who had been struggling the past few games,
came up big in the fourth with nine points and three steals. Boston's 25-15 dominance on the boards in the second half was
too much for Phoenix down the stretch. Cowens played the last 10 minutes with five fouls and Phoenix was unable get him out
of the game. - (Quality 9)

76ers @ Portland Trailblazers - Philadelphia came out to a good start behind
George McGinnis (28pts), who broke his series long slump by hitting his first three shots. Bill Walton had a monster game,
a near quadruple-double. Caldwell Jones got in foul trouble and neither he, nor Darryl Dawkins, could handle Walton who finished
with 20 points, 23 rebounds, eight blocks and seven assists. He keyed a run that started with four minutes left in the first
period. Philadelphia was leading 22-18 when Portland went on a 39-20 tear to take a 57-42 lead with three minutes left in
the half. Portland was aid in their run by grabbing nine offensive rebounds in the second period. Portland's backcourt outscored
Philly's 30-4 in the first half. Philadelphia tried to get back into the game but was still trailing by 12 with six minutes
left in the game. The 76ers then came to life as they cut to five at 95-90. But Bob Gross made two acrobatic layups to push
it back to 99-90. Behind Julius Erving (40pts... many coming on an amazing array of spectacular flying dunks!) and McGinnis
(who would make 29-52 shots while the rest of the team was 15-39) they cut it to three, 108-105, with 51 seconds remaining.
Maurice Lucas made one of two free throws to make it 109-105 before McGinnis hit a shot with 18 seconds to play. With Portland
leading 109-107, the 76ers forced a jump ball and won the tap. Philadelphia then got three good looks at the basket to send
the game into overtime but Erving, Lloyd Free and McGinnis all missed and time ran out before they could get a fourth try.

down and scores quick lay up, then Davis gets a steal and lays in another basket to cut the lead to 4. Seattle then throws
the inbounds pass right to Westphal who lays it and gets fouled to make it a 2 point game with 4 seconds to go and gets a
shot to make it a one point game. The Suns choose to miss the free throw and try for the rebound to tie the game. Westphal
misses so badly on the first shot that it bounds off the top of the back board and right back to him so he takes a second
shot at missing right away, but Seattle rebounds to seal the game. - NBAtv rebroadcast (Quality

(05-20-79) 1979 NBA Finals Game 1 - Washington
Bullets vs Seattle Super Sonics - The game finished with a controversy as the
defending champs frustrated Seattle once again. Referee Ed Rush called a foul on Dennis Johnson as time expired that sent
Larry Wright (26pts) to the free throw line. Of course, Washington contended that Gus Williams committed goaltending on the
final play. Wright, who was 19-19 from the line in the playoffs, missed the first shot but made the next two to give the Bullets
a 99-97 win. Wright scored 12 of Washington's 17 points in the fourth quarter. Seattle dug itself a huge hole as they fell
behind by 18 points with nine minutes left in the fourth before rallying. Gus Williams who scored 14 points in the final stanza
led the rally. Seattle tied it at 97 on an offensive rebound basket. Tom Henderson missed but Lonnie Shelton lost the ball
out of bounds giving Washington possession with five seconds left. The Sonics compounded their woes by making only 11 of 23
free throws. The mounted their comeback with ferocious defense that forced 20 Bullet turnovers. Washington was leading 37-32
with 8:11 left in the second quarter when Wright entered. Wright scored 10 of the Bullets' next 14 points as Washington extended

(05-04-80) 1980 NBA Finals Game 1 - Philadelphia 76ers @ Los Angeles Lakers - Lionel Hollins came out firing in the first half but was injured in the in the second half and had to leave.
Philadelphia had a 39-30 lead in the second quarter when reserve forward Mark Landsberger came up with two offensive rebound
buckets in a row for L.A. to stem the tide. Darryl Dawkins was saddled with three quick fouls which limited his playing time.
With the game tied at the start of the second half, L.A. scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to take a 65-53 lead
with 7:39 left in the quarter. The 76ers were just unable to make anything in the third as they shot 3-20 from the field.
What's more, two of the three made hoops were layups as Philadelphia made 1-18 from out on the floor. Dawkins picked up his
fourth foul early in the third on an offensive foul as he went for a dunk. Magic Johnson (16pts, 10ast, 9reb) pulled down
nine rebounds in the third quarter to help key the Laker break. Jamaal Wilkes and Michael Cooper held Julius Erving to only
one free throw in the decisive third period. After L.A. achieved their largest lead at 78-62, Philadelphia began to comeback
behind Erving who scored 11 points in the fourth period. The 76ers clawed within 92-88 with 6:01 left in the game after a
10-0 spurt. Norm Nixon then hit Landsberger on a backdoor play to make it a 94-88. Philadelphia would not get any closer the
rest of the way. The Lakers received a huge night from their leader Kareem Abdul Jabbar (33pts, 14reb, 6blk, 5ast) as the
76ers had no answer for him. - added December, 2007

(05-16-80) 1980 NBA Finals Game 6 - Los Angeles Lakers @ Philadelphia Sixers - Magic makes his mark on History! The Lakers' team doctors declared Abdul-Jabbar and his bad ankle unfit for Game 6, so Laker coach
Paul Westhead made a bold move by asking Magic Johnson to jump center. Johnson had no problem and was up to the challenge.
Early on, the Sixers seemed unsure how to counter the matchup problem. The Lakers went up 7-0, then 11-4. Finally, the Sixers
used their newfound size advantage in the second quarter to take a 52-44 lead. The Lakers countered by collapsing more in
the paint and rallied for a 60-60 tie at the half. Los Angeles opened the third period with a 14-0 run, keyed by Jamaal Wilkes,
who had 16 points in the quarter. In the fourth with a little over five minutes left, the Sixers had rallied to cut the Laker
lead to 103-101. After a timeout, the tired Lakers went on one last run, with Magic scoring nine points down the stretch on
the way to a final 123-107 margin. Wilkes had a career-high 37 points and added 10 rebounds. Jim Chones effectively shut down
the middle in place of Abdul-Jabbar and finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and held Darryl Dawkins to 14 points and
a scant four rebounds. Michael Cooper, in a rare start, scored 16 points, and Mark Landsberger contributed 10 boards. But,
this night belonged to the rookie MVP Magic. He scored 42 points, including all 14 of his free-throw attempts. He added 15
rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block. "It was amazing, just amazing," said Erving, who led Philly with 27 points.

huge 1st quarters. The Doctor scored 6 of their first 8 points and Toney tallied 10 in the period. Philadelphia stretched
their lead to 15 points in the 3rd quarter (83-68). L.A. coach Pat Riley then switched to their zone trap defense and the
Lakers responded with a 40-9 run over an 11-minute stretch of the 3rd and 4th quarters. The tsunami started with a 19-2 run
that gave L.A. their first lead at 87-85 with 1:49 left in the 3rd period. Jamaal Wilkes who scored 16 points in the 3rd period
led their surge; 14 of them came off offensive rebounds or fastbreaks. Both Erving & Toney would run dry. Dr. J would
score only 7 points in the games final 22 minutes while Toney would score only 1 bucket after the 1st quarter until the closing
minutes of the game when the outcome had been decided. The win was L.A.’s 9th straight playoff win; a NBA record. -

(05-31-83) 1983 NBA Finals Game 4 - Philadelphia 76ers @ Los Angeles Lakers - L.A. had to try and stave off elimination without Norm Nixon or Bob McAdoo who were out with their injuries. It looked
like they would do so as they raced to a 17-point 2nd quarter lead. Kareem held Moses to only 9 points and 7 rebounds in the
1st half while scoring 17 of his own. Philadelphia started to comeback in the 2nd half and closed the gap to 82-78 late in
the 3rd period. It looked like L.A. would survive the challenge when they closed the 3rd with a 11-4 run to lead by 11. However,
the 4th period was all 76’ers. Moses, who would score 15 points and grab 16 boards in the 2nd half, led the charge.
However, it was Dr. J who closed the door. Sensing his 1st NBA title, he made the biggest plays. With L.A. leading 106-104,
The Doctor stole the ball from Kareem and dunked it home to tie the game at 106. Following a Laker free throw, Erving converted
a 3-point play to give the 76’ers a 109-107 lead with 59 seconds left. After a steal, Dr. J then nailed a 1-handed runner
over Magic from the top of the key to make it 111-107 with 24 seconds left. - From Sixers dynasty DVD (Quality 10)

(05-31-84) 1984 NBA Finals Game 2 - Los Angeles Lakers @ Boston Celtics - Boston came out strong in the 1st period and only Magic’s
14 points kept L.A. from being run out of Boston Garden. L.A. rallied in the 2nd quarter behind James Worthy and Jamaal Wilkes
to close the gap to 2 at the half with a 15-4 run after Boston led 57-44. Worthy would finish the game with 5 3-point plays
as Boston could not contain his quickness. Kareem scored 9 points in the first 3:34 of the 3rd quarter as L.A. took their
first lead of the game, 66-65. Boston would answer with a run of 11-3 to lead 76-69. The Lakers would answer with their own
run of 18-6 to lead 87-82 late in the 3rd. Boston would score the last 8 points (4 by Danny Ainge) of the 3rd to re-take the
lead. In the 4th, L.A. took a 115-113 lead with 18 seconds left. McHale was fouled and had 2 shots. L.A. coach Pat Riley told
Magic that he wanted a timeout if McHale made the 2nd shot but Magic misunderstood. After McHale missed both, L.A. called
timeout and allowed the Celtics to set up their defense. Magic got the ball to Worthy in the backcourt, but with Magic standing
just an arms’ length away, Worthy tried to hit Byron Scott with a crosscourt pass. Celtic Gerald Henderson picked off
pass streaking towards the hoop and laid in the tying basket with 13 seconds left. L.A. would get no last shot attempt as
Magic was caught dribbling on the perimeter as the horn sounded. In the OT, Scott Wedman took a feed from Henderson and hit
a baseline jumper to make it 122-121 Boston with 14 ticks on the clock. Larry Bird hit 2 free throws with 2 seconds left to
provide the final margin. - Worthy 29 Pts, Magic 27/10/ 9, Bird 27 Pts - added December, 2007

(06-06-84) 1984 NBA Finals Game 4 - Boston Celtics @ Los Angeles Lakers - OT - The Lakers missed yet another chance to throw dirt on
the Celtics as they squandered several late chances to take a 3-1 lead in the series. L.A. led by as many as 14 points in
the 1st half and looked to be in charge. L.A. made 10 of their first 11 shots as they took a 31-21 lead late in the 1st period.
Boston closed the period on an 11-1 run to offset the Lakers’ early streak. However, the Celtics started the 2nd period
by missing their first 9 shots as L.A. went on a 14-1 run behind 6 points from Swen Nater to take a 47-33 lead. Boston suffered
a setback when bench sharpshooter Scott Wedman fractured his fibula. L.A. was still leading 76-70 in the 3rd quarter when
the psychological turning point of the series occurred. Kevin
McHale clotheslined Kurt Rambis on a breakaway and a near pier 6 brawl erupted.
Just 1:29 later Kareem and Bird had to be separated by officials as well. Boston would go on to take a 104-101 with 5:24 left
in the game but L.A. answered with an 8-0 run to take a 109-104 lead. L.A. still led by 5 (113-108) with less than a minute
remaining. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar then fouled out as Robert Parish scored. Kareem was a big loss as he had been on a roll with
14 4th quarter points. Parish hit the free throw to cut it to 113-111. Parish then knocked the ball away from Magic and Larry
Bird converted 2 free throws to tie the game at 113. Parish came up with another steal with 4 seconds left but both Bird &
McHale missed opportunities to win the game in regulation. L.A. would be haunted by 4 missed free throws in the final minute.
Magic Johnson missed 2 with 35 seconds left and James Worthy missed 2 with 10 seconds left after being given the "choke" sign
by Cedric Maxwell and M.L. Carr. In the extra period, Bird hit a 15-foot turnaround to give Boston a 125-123 lead with 16
seconds left in OT. L.A. could not answer as they could not find Worthy who had 10 points in the OT. Dennis Johnson converted
2 free throws to clinch the game. - Celtics Dynasty DVD (Quality

34 points (15-20 shooting), 17 rebounds... The game was known as the "Heat Game" or "Sauna Game", as it was played under 97-degree heat,
and without any air conditioning, at Boston Garden. The Celtics did not warm up with their sweat pants on because of extreme
heat, and oxygen tanks were provided to give air to exhausted players. It was also the last time that a team with home court
advantage in a 7 game series played a Game 5 in it's own floor. The next year, the NBA Finals switched to a 2-3-2 format with
Game 5 going to the team without home-court advantage.

(05-27-85) 1985 NBA Finals Game 1- LA Lakers @ Boston Celtics - The Memorial Day Massacre! The Celtics broke numerous
championship series records as they buried the Lakers. It started in the 1st quarter when Danny Ainge scored 15 points as
he sank his final 6 shots of the period. Scott Wedman, who would set a record by going 11-11 in the game, scored 11 points
in the 2nd quarter as Boston built a 30-point lead. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a non-factor as he picked up 3 fouls in less then
12 minutes in the 1st half. Byron Scott scored just 4 points on 2-8 shooting in the opening half as his personal woes in Boston
continued. Dennis Johnson held Magic Johnson to just 1 rebound in the game. Boston led 79-49 at the half with the 79 1st half
points being another record. They would set another record with their 148 points for the game. Kevin McHale led the 2nd half
carnage with 13 3rd quarter points. L.A.’s frustration boiled over when Scott nailed Ainge with a forearm shiver. The
refs missed that, but they did not miss Ainge throwing the ball at Scott in retaliation. Ainge was hit with a technical foul.
(05-30-85) 1985 NBA Finals Game 2 - LA Lakers @ Boston Celtics - After
stewing over their loss, L.A. answered back to even the series. The Lakers ran out to an 18 point halftime lead. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
who bounced back from a disappointing Game 1 led them. L.A. jumped out to a 21-6 lead behind 9 points from James Worthy and
extended it 30-16 with 2:25 left in the 1st half. Boston ended the 1st with a 10-1 run to get back in the game. The Lakers
opened the 2nd as hot as the 1st behind 8 points from Michael Cooper. L.A. led 46-33 with 7:06 left in the half. Robert Parish
limped off at that point but he would return shortly. Boston tried to comeback behind Larry Bird’s 12 3rd quarter points
as they cut the lead from 18 to 8. Abdul-Jabbar would answer with 12 points of his own in the quarter including some of the
10 skyhooks that he would sink in the game. Boston would close the gap from 12 in the 4th but they could never seriously threaten
L.A.
(06-02-85) 1985 NBA Finals Game 3 - Boston Celtics @ LA Lakers - Kareem
Abdul-Jabbar became the NBA’s all-time leading playoff scorer in Game 3 as the Lakers blitzed the Celtics. L.A. ran
their record at the Forum to 25-1 since February 1st. In the 1st quarter, neither team led by more than 4 points as Kareem
continued his hot shooting with 10 points In the 1st 7 minutes of the game. The game was physical and was marred by 3 different
shoving matches. One resulted in Celtic Ray Williams being ejected after punching Kurt Rambis while another resulted in a
double technical Bob McAddo and Kevin McHale. Boston pulled ahead by 10 at 48-38 in the 2nd quarter. The Lakers then kicked
it into high gear behind James Worthy, Magic Johnson, and Bob McAdoo. With Magic leading the break, L.A. would end the half
on a 27-11 run to take the lead. McAdoo hit 4 straight jumpers in a 2½-minute stretch. Worthy would score 15 points in the
2nd quarter and 14 in the 3rd quarter. L.A. would continue to pull away from Boston as they pounded Boston on the boards to
trigger Showtime.
(06-05-85) 1985 NBA Finals Game 4 - Boston Celtics @ LA Lakers -
In a back and forth game, that saw both teams seemingly in charge, Boston pulled it out at the end to even the series. L.A.
looked ready to run away again but Boston fought back and took the lead at the end of the half behind Larry Bird’s late
jumper. The Lakers took the lead in the 3rd and looked to be in command as they led 92-85 early in the final period. Bird
would score 11 points in the final stanza to lead a Celtic comeback. Bird culminated a 10-2 run with 2 free throws to give
Boston a 95-94 lead with 6:42 to play. With Boston leading 97-96, Bird stole the ball and then hit a fallaway jumper to make
it 99-96. Now, it was the Lakers turn to rally as they finally came back to tie it at 105 on a Magic Johnson follow shot in
the final half-minute. The Celtics had the last possession and, after L.A. double-teamed Bird, he found Dennis Johnson who
knocked down a 21-footer as the horn sounded to win the game. - Added October, 2008
(06-07-85) 1985 NBA Finals Game 5 - Boston Celtics @ LA Lakers - Once
again, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar came out hot with 12 points in the 1st quarter. There were 5 lead changes and 4 ties in the 1st
quarter alone. Kevin McHale led the way for Boston with 13 points in the 1st quarter. L.A. coach Pat Riley made a defensive
switch and had Abdul-Jabbar guard McHale and he put either Kurt Rambis or Bob McAdoo on Robert Parish and Kareem stopped McHale’s
scoring binge. The score was tied at 44 with 6:52 left in the 2nd quarter when L.A. ripped off a 20-7 run to close the half.
James Worthy had 9 points in the run while Robert Parish had all 7 Celtic points. The Lakers would stretch the lead to 18,
70-52, early in the 3rd period. With the score 76-59, Celtics coach K.C. Jones was ejected after receiving his 2nd technical
foul. The lead was still 89-72 late in the 3rd before Boston tried to stage a comeback. Boston closed the gap to 4 points
on 4 different occasions in the 4th but could not get any closer. L.A. did not score for the first 3:43 of the 4th as their
hot shooting deserted them. Boston would trail 101-97 with 6 minutes left before Kareem and Magic would combine for the next
7 Laker hoops (Kareem 4 and Magic 3). With the score 107-103, L.A. put it away when Kareem hit a sky hook, Kurt Rambis converted
an offensive board into free throws and Magic converted a Rambis steal into a fastbreak hoop. That left the score at 113-103
with only 2:42 left.
(06-09-85) 1985 NBA Finals Game 6 - LA Lakers @ Boston Celtics - Lakers erase the ghosts by winning 1st championship in 8 tries against Celtics,
and at the Garden no less! Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (29pts) again helped L.A. off
to a good start with 11 points in the 1st quarter. He would pick up his 3rd personal foul early in the 2nd quarter with the
score tied at 39. Magic (14pts, 14ast, 10reb) would also leave with his 3rd foul at the 3:33 mark. Mitch Kupchak filled in
with 6 points and 5 rebounds; most during the 2nd period to keep the game tied. James Worthy (28pts) made his first appearance
in goggles in this game after being poked in the eye in Game 5. In the 3rd quarter, a 8-0 L.A. run left them with a 73-63
lead. They would still lead by 9 midway through the 4th quarter. Boston used only 7 players in the game and, perhaps as a
result, Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge missed 25 of 31 shots. L.A. would hold off Boston late in the 4th with 2 Magic drives
and 3 Kareem sky hooks as the Lakers finally stomped out the Leprechaun. - Lakers Dynasty DVD (Quality 10)

(04-20-86) EC 1st RD Game 2 - Chicago Bulls @ Boston Celtics - Michael Jordan's career playoff high 63 points! Jordan was able to play in only 18 regular-season games in his second year in the NBA, after breaking a small
bone in his foot in Chicago's third game of the year. Although he was encouraged to sit out the end of the season in order
to make sure he was fully healed for the next, he insisted on coming back late in the season and led the Bulls to the 1986
NBA Playoffs. In Game 2 of Chicago's first round matchup against the eventual NBA champion Boston Celtics that Jordan showed
just how thoroughly he had recovered. In the hallowed halls of the Boston Garden, he set a playoff record by scoring an amazing
63 points against what many considered to be one of the greatest NBA teams ever. The Celtics won the game, 135-131 in double-overtime,
and went on to sweep the Bulls, but Jordan's playoff record still stands. "Michael was doing so much and so well, I found
myself just wanting to stop and watch him -- and I was playing," said teammate John Paxson. "I didn't think anyone was capable
of doing what Michael has done to us," marveled Celtics ace Larry Bird. "He is the most exciting, awesome player in the game
today. I think it's just God disguised as Michael Jordan."

(06-08-86) 1986 NBA Finals Game 6 - Houston Rockets vs Boston Celtics - In one of the All Time Greatest Performances in NBA Finals History Larry Bird (29 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.) delivered the knockout punch with a triple-double performance,
and figuratively speaking he did so early in this game as he would finish the 1st Half alone with 16 points, 8 rebounds and
8 assists! No wonder he was named the MVP! Certainly one of the greatest teams of all time, the Bird lead Boston Celtics would
win 114-97 over the Houston Rockets to take their 16th Crown, what turned out to the their last until turning the trick again
22 years later. The Rockets missed their chance in the 1st quarter when they committed 11 turnovers. Seven of those turnovers
came in the first 6 minutes as Boston jumped out to a 22-10 lead. Hakeem Olajuwon (19 points, 13 rebounds) came up with 3
straight steals, 2 of whom he finished with dunks to cut the lead to 22-21. In the 2nd period, the Rockets could only make
6 of 23 shots. Boston would open up a 55-38 lead as they closed the half with a 24-10. Bird (13) and Kevin McHale (9) combined
for 22 of the 24 points in the Celtic run. Ralph Sampson, booed with great vigor, scored only 2 points in the 1st half on
1-8 shooting. Boston outrebounded Houston 30-16 in the 1st half led by McHale’s 21 points and 9 rebounds. Bird helped
put the game away with a trio of 3-pointers in the 3rd period. Houston would get no closer than 14 points in the 2nd half
as Boston led by as many as 30 (97-67) in the 4th quarter. - Added March, 2009

two free throws, and the game was tied. In the overtime West won 154-149. In the East, the best player was Moses Malone (27

The Lakers were off and running again, but this time Boston stayed close early. Robert Parish’s 12 points in the opening
frame kept the Celtics close. In the 2nd quarter, The Lakers exploded on a 20 point run in which Michael Cooper accounted
for all 20 points via either basket or assist. Cooper tied a Finals record with 8 assists in the 2nd quarter while making
6 of 7 3-point attempts. L.A. was leading 49-42 when they scored 7 points in 50 seconds to go up 56-42. All in all, the Lakers
outscored the Celtics 36-2 on fastbreak points in the 1st half. Trailing by 19 at the half, Boston tried to rally in the 3rd
as Larry Bird (9), Dennis Johnson (12) and Kevin McHale (10) scored 31 of their 36 3rd quarter points. Boston did cut the
lead from 22 points to 15 but it was all for naught as L.A. opened the 4th with an 8-0 run to take a 115-92 lead. Not too
long after that, it was bench-clearing time. Magic tied the same record as Cooper when he came up with 8 3rd quarter assists.
Things got even worse for Boston as Kevin McHale reinjured his foot. The Lakers shot a Finals record 61.5% from the field
for the game. - Added March, 2009

This is the ShowTime Lakers best team of their era! For a long while, it looked like Boston would force a dreaded 7th game. Dennis Johnson held Magic
to 4 1st half points and stifled the Laker offense. After a 10-4 Laker start, the Celtics answered with a 15-2 run to take
the lead. The Celtics would maintain and lead for all 12 minutes of the 2nd quarter. The Lakers fired out of the gates in
the 3rd quarter, scoring the first 10 points of the quarter. That turned a 5 point deficit into a 5 point lead before Boston
scored its first points nearly 3 minutes into the period. That bucket was followed by another 8-0 Laker run that gave L.A.
a 69-58 lead. Boston connected on only 26% of its 3rd quarter shot attempts. Robert Parish picked up his 5th foul in the 4th
as L.A. extended its lead to 89-70. Parish would later foul out with 7:22 left in the game, as Boston never got closer than
12 points the rest of the way. - Added October, 2008

(06-19-88) 1988 NBA Finals Game 6 - Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Lakers - Isiah Thomas Injury game - The Lakers used the hot hands of James Worthy and Byron Scott to forge a lead in the 2nd quarter.
They were still leading 56-48 in the 3rd period when Isiah Thomas began one of the best quarters in Finals history. Thomas
would go 11-13 from the field in 3rd quarter and score 25 points in the period. At one point, he scored 14 straight Piston
points. However, with 4 minutes left in the 3rd, Thomas landed on Michael Cooper’s foot and severely sprained his ankle.
He would return but it would have consequences. Still, with 1 minute remaining it looked like Detroit might win their 1st
NBA championship as they led 102-99. Scott knocked down a 14-footer to cut the lead to 1 with 52 seconds left. Thomas then
missed an 18-foot jumper and L.A. claimed the rebound. On the ensuing possession, Bill Laimbeer fouled Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
on a skyhook attempt. The goggled one then made both shots to give the Lakers a 103-102 lead with 14 ticks left. Joe Dumars
then missed a 5-footer in traffic and Scott pulled down the rebounded and was fouled with 0:02 left. He missed both shots
but Detroit could not get a shot off. - ESPN Classic rebroadcast (Quality 9)
(06-21-88) 1988 NBA Finals Game 7 - Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Lakers - Lakers become first team to win
back to back titles in two decades! The Pistons controlled the game in the 1st
half and led by 5 after Isiah Thomas hit 2 jumpers in the last 27 seconds of the half. James Worthy and Adrian Datley both
scored 11 points in the 1st quarter. Thomas, playing on a very bum wheel, scored 10 points in the 1st half but could play
little after halftime. In the 2nd half, Michael Cooper finally broke out of his clump with some big shots as L.A. built a
lead. The Pistons only made 1 field goal in the first 6:05 of the 3rd stanza. Worthy scored 7 straight to give L.A. a 56-54
lead. He would score 11 and Byron Scott would score 14 in the 3rd. The Lakers were leading 90-75 in the 4th when Chuck Daly
went with a pressing line-up of Vinnie Johnson, John Salley, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer. The Pistons then
mounted a comeback as they cut the lead to 98-92 with 3:52 left to play after a 13-4 run. They continued to claw back and
cut it to 102-100 on a Dumars hoop with 1:17 remaining. Magic made 1 of 2 free throws but an ill-advised Rodman jumper got
L.A. the ball right back and Scott nailed 2 free throws to make it 105-100 with less than 40 seconds remaining. Dumars again
came through and cut it back to 3. Worthy made 1 of 2 at the line and Laimbeer nailed a 3 to cut the lead to 106-105 with
6 seconds left. A.C. Green got free for a lay-up on the ensuing in-bounds play and, when Thomas couldn’t get a final
shot off, the Lakers had repeated. - Lakers Dynasty DVD (Quality

(Quality 8.5)
(06-02-91) NBA Finals Game 1 - Chicago Bulls Vs. Los Angeles Lakers - Sam Perkins hits a 3 with 14 seconds remaining. MJ misses the buzzer beater
as LA goes up 1-0. Jordan 36 points 12 rebounds 8 assists, Magic Johnson 19 points 10 rebounds 10 assists, James Worthy 22
points. Jordan’s 6 three pointers and 35 points in the
first half are both finals records
(06-05-91) NBA Finals Game 2 - Chicago Bulls Vs. Los Angeles Lakers - Michael Jordan preforms his unreal mid air hand switching lay up shown all the time nowadays! Bulls’ coach Phil Jackson switched this game and had Scottie Pippen guard Magic Johnson while
Michael Jordan took Vlade Divac. Pippen held Magic’s inside game in check and was quicker than him as well. Horace Grant
led the way in the 1st half with 14 points. Jordan scored only 2 points in the game’s first 20 minutes. Thereafter though,
he would make his next 13 shots from the floor. Chicago was leading 58-51 when Byron Scott was called for a breakaway foul
on Pippen with 8:05 left in the period. That seemed to wake Chicago as they went on to make 17 of 20 field goals in the 3rd.
For the game, the Bulls shot a Finals record 61.7% from the floor. Even Jordan leaving with 4 fouls with 4:11 left in the
3rd did not stop them. Chicago led by 12 when he left and they increased their lead to 16 by the time he returned. Jordan
then sparked an 11-0 run that put the Bulls up 97-71. He scored 7 of the 11 points and assisted on the other 2 hoops.
(06-07-91) NBA Finals Game 3 - Chicago Bulls Vs. Los Angeles Lakers - The
Bulls turned the tables on L.A. in this game and dominated the paint. L.A. set a Finals rebounding low. The Lakers broke loose
for an 18-2 run that brought them from 3 down (49-52) to 13 up (67-54). Chicago would answer with the run with a 20-7 run
to tie the game in the 4th quarter at 74. Chicago looked to have taken control when Horace Grant’s layup gave them a
90-87 lead with 1:07 to play. Sam Perkins scored on a drive to cut the lead to 1 with 0:39 left. After the Bulls failed to
score, Vlade Divac scored on a layup while drawing a foul. After he converted the free throw, the Lakers led 92-90 with 10.9
seconds left. Michael Jordan then drove the length of the floor and hit a 14-foot shot to tie the game with 3.7 seconds left.
The Lakers couldn’t score and the game into overtime. Jordan would score 6 of the Bulls 12 points as they pulled away
in the extra session.
(06-09-91) NBA Finals Game 4 - Chicago Bulls Vs. Los Angeles Lakers
(06-12-91) NBA Finals Game 5 - Chicago Bulls Vs. Los Angeles Lakers - Neither
James Worthy nor Byron Scott could comeback from their injuries to play in Game 5. Elden Campbell tried to pick up the slack
by scoring 13 points in the 1st half as he outscored Michael Jordan (30 points & 10 assists) who had 12. Tony Smith played
well after being forced into more playing time. But, in the end, not even Magic Johnson’s 20 assists nor his 30th career
playoff triple-double could save L.A. The Lakers fought gamely though. In fact, they led 93-90 with 6:47 left in the game.
Then Chicago unleashed a 9-0 run to take the lead by 6. They had a Scottie Pippen (32 points & 13 rebounds) 3 Pointer,
John Paxson from 22 feet twice, and a Paxson fast break layup during the run. Paxson would score 10 points in the final 3:54
of the game. It was 105-101 with 56 seconds left but L.A. could not score again. Three free throws by Jordan and Pippen sealed
Chicago’s 1st title.

55 points, tying the 2nd Highest total in Finals History, to go up 3 games to
1. Charles Barkley’s (32 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists)
fourth career triple-double was not enough to square the series. Chicago led
most all the way and were up by 8 points with 3:33 left in the game. Phoenix made a comeback and cut the lead to 106-104 with
less than 1 minute remaining. The Suns regained possession after the Bulls failed to score with a chance to tie or take the
lead on a 3. They couldn’t capitalize after an unforced error; Kevin Johnson mishandled Danny Ainge’s in-bounds
pass. B.J. Armstrong recovered the loose ball and Michael Jordan produced a 3-point play off a drive that clinched the game.

to trail 98-94. Michael Jordan made a layup to cut the margin to 2 points, and the Suns missed a shot on their next possession.
Trailing 98-96 and facing a Game 7 on the road if they lost that day, John Paxson took a pass from Horace Grant and buried
a three pointer with 3.9 seconds left, giving the Bulls a 99-98 lead. The victory was secured by a last-second block from
Horace Grant.

Chicago, Michael Jordan (22 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists) scored 6 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and handed out 3 assists in
the 1st quarter as Chicago broke from the gate ahead of Seattle. The Sonics connected on only 36% of its 1st period attempts.
The Bulls built a 12-point lead, 41-29, with 4:01 left in the 2nd frame despite no points from Jordan nor Scottie Pippen (17
points) during the run. Chicago also grabbed 9 offensive boards during the 2nd period. After Seattle closed the gap late in
the half, Chicago had a 12-2 run in the 3rd to open a 64-47 lead. Seattle scored 9 straight to avoid a blow out. Dennis Rodman
grabbed 7 boards in the final period (he finished the game by tying his own Finals record of grabbing 11 offensive rebounds)
as Chicago maintained control. Seattle’s dim chances grew even dimmer as Shawn Kemp (18 points, 14 rebounds) fouled
out with 4:39 left. Toni Kukoc then hit a pair of trifectas to clinch it for the Bulls.

2001 NBA All-Star game - 50th NBA All Star Game An exciting last quarter lead by Allen Iverson, a battle between Kobe Bryant and Stephon Marbury in the
last minute, and Kobe in the last play passing the ball to Tim Duncan, when everybody was waiting a shot. East team celebrated
the victory like a Finals Game. The East team show to the world, that the difference in quality between conferences is smaller
than most of the people thought. But East show their heart in the last quarter (Iverson 15 points in the last 9 minutes, and
Marbury two 3 pointers in the last minute) and overcame the height difference, that had allowed the West team to win 95-74
after 39 minutes of play. The game had started with an 11-0 score, lead by the inside game of the West (Duncan, Webber, Garnett),
and the first quarter finished with 30-17 and 10 turnovers for the East. In the second quarter Vince Carter made a 360 (this
dunk was better than the others in the Slam Dunk contest the day before) and Ray Allen scored easily. The first half finished
61-50 with a huge 3 pointer by Jason Kidd. Dikembe Mutombo with 22 rebounds was one of the main keys in the East triumph.

has a big night too, but it’s the play of Luke Walton (7pts, 8asst, 1blk), son of Bill, who ignites the team! For the

(01-22-06) LA Lakers vs Toronto Rapters - Kobe Bryant scores 81 Points, the 2nd Highest Point Total in
an NBA Game Ever!!! What's even more amazing is the fact that he has "only" 26 at the Half, and his Lakers team trails by
14 to the Toronto Raptors, who will be geared to shut him down. But despite that he pumps in an unreal 55 points in the 2nd
Half, also 2nd Highest ever in an NBA Game, to lead LA to 122-104 victory. Wilt's 100pts is of course the highest ever recorded,
but when you consider that that game was at the end of the year against a last place team, and he was being fed the ball inside
to score, as opposed to a middle of the year game that meant something to both teams, well, it's no wonder this performance
by Kobe (which when calculated to the pace of Wilt's 1962 performance is the equivalent of 113pts in that era) is being called
the single greatest scoring performance ever in the history of the game. If nothing else, it's the greatest ever to be seen
to date as no footage of Wilts feat exists, and there were barely 4,000 fans in attendance. Kobe's effort, well, you've got
see it to believe it! (Quality 9)

(05-??-08) 2008 NBA Finals Game 1 - Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics - The Paul Pierce Dramatic Injury
Game Lakers lead at the Half in Boston, and are for the most part in control
in the 3rd when Celtics star Paul Pierce goes down with what looks like a season ending injury. but miraculously he comes
back a few minutes later and inspires his team by reentering the game, and then immediately hitting two huge 3pt Shots! LA
never regains the games momentum and Boston goes on to take the opening game 98-88. - Added March, 2009
(05-??-08) 2008 NBA Finals Game 2 - Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics - The Leon Powe Game Bench player Leon Powe (21 points) has a huge night off the bench for Celtics as they build up
a 24 point lead with just over seven minutes remaining. But the Lakers fight back to within two points with a minute to go
threatening to pull off an epic comeback. But it wasn't to be as they eventually fell 108-102 in Boston to go down two games
to none in the Finals as they headed back home. The post game talk centered mostly around the fact that Powe had more foul
shots in 14 minutes of play then the entire Los Angeles team had for the game, a fact even more magnified by the fact that
the Celtics took 38 foul shots compared to only 10 for the Lakers. Ah, nothing like the "home court advantage". - Added March,
2009
(05-??-08) 2008 NBA Finals Game 3 - Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics - The Lakers climb back into the Finals with what can be
described as none other than an ugly win. Neither team shot well (LA at 43.5%, Boston at an abysmal 34.9%, and each team
was UNDER 70% from the charity stripe) but the home town Lakers received a big night from Kobe Bryant (36 points) and
a huge effort from Sasha Vujacic (20 points) to take 87-81 victory. For Boston, Ray Allen starred (25 points), but the other
two members of the "big 3" struggled as Kevin Garnett (13 points on 6-21 shooting) and Paul Pierce (6 points on 2-14 shooting)
just could not find their games. - Added March, 2009
(05-??-08) 2008 NBA Finals Game 4 - Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics - Greatest Comeback in NBA Finals
History!!! The Boston Celtics overcame the largest halftime deficit in
Finals history since the institution of the shot clock (1954) to win the game 97-91 in the Lakers house! LA came out
smoking in building the largest 1st Quarter lead in Finals History with 35-14 lead. They continued to hold serve taking a
58-40 lead into Halftime. But, as with the first three games of the Finals, Boston won the third. And oh boy did the win it,
out scoring the Lakers 31-15 that included a 21-3 run to close out the quarter down by only two at 73-71. In the 4th, the
Celtics continued their stifling defense that would be the key to this amazing victory and finally pulled ahead with four
minutes remaining and never trailed again. AMAZING! - Added March, 2009
(05-??-08) 2008 NBA Finals Game 5 - Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics - Lakers extend the Finals with gritty performance The
Los Angeles Lakers didn't want to see anyone celebrating a championship on their court if it wasn't themselves, and especially
not their hated arch rival Boston Celtics! They kept that from happening with a hard fought 103-98 win at home to send the
Finals back to Boston with the Celtics leading 3-2 in games. Similar to Game #4, Los Angeles jumped out to a big lead after
one quarter leading 39-22. And just like that game Boston bounced back, quicker this time as they clawed to within two trailing
the Lakers by only three at the Half. But for the first time in the Finals LA actually won the 3rd Quarter to take an either
point lead into the final stanza, where they withstood a Boston run at the end to take the win. Kobe Bryant (25 points) lead
the way for LA, pulling off the game clinching steal on the Celtics Paul Pierce (38 points) in the final seconds. - Added
March, 2009
(05-??-08) 2008 NBA Finals Game 6 - Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics - Largest Finals Clinching Margin in NBA Finals History! The Boston Celtics destroyed the Los Angeles Lakers at home 131-92 to win their 17th NBA Title - Added March,
