Oakland Raiders (1960-1981)

1967

1967 AFL Championship Game - Oakland Raiders vs Houston Oilers - After going 13-1 in 1967, the Western Division Champion Raiders met the 9-4-1 Eastern Division Champion Houston Oilers for the American Football League Championship. The Raiders prevailed, 40-7, for their first league championship. George Blanda kicked four field goals and four PATs, Hewritt Dixon scored on a 69-yard run, and Daryle Lamonica threw for two touchdowns and ran for one more. Lamonica was the AFL season MVP for the second time in 1967, sharing the honor with Joe Namath. - 25 mins narrated by Charlie Jones - added September, 2008

(01-14-68) Super Bowl II - Oakland Raiders vs Green Bay Packers - Having acquired a third consecutive NFL championship just two weeks earlier, the Packers embellished that record-tying parlay by winning the Super Bowl title for the second straight year. This time, they dispatched the AFL champion Raiders 33-14 in a game that drew the first $3-million gate in football history. Bart Starr again was chosen the game's most valuable player as he completed 13 of 24 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown and directed a Packers attack that was in control all the way after building up a 16-7 halftime lead. Don Chandler kicked four field goals (39, 20, 43 and 31 yards), and All-Pro cornerback Herb Adderley highlighted the Green Bay scoring with a 60-yard interception return of a Daryle Lamonica pass. After leading by only 3-0 at the quarter, the Packers padded their margin to 16-7 at halftime by way of three Chandler field goals and a 62-yard scoring pass from Starr to split end Boyd Dowler. They then left the Raiders behind with a 10-point third period, Donny Anderson scoring on a two-yard run and Chandler with his final field goal. The game marked the last for Vince Lombardi as Packers coach, ending nine years at Green Bay in which he won six Western Conference championships, five NFL titles and two Super Bowls, a record unprecedented in pro football history. - Game film and radio broadcast merger on 3 DVDs of entire game - Added July, 2011

2003

(12-22-03) Green Bay Packers @ Oakland Raiders - MNF - Favre plays his most awe inspiring game - Brett Favre dealt with the grief in the best way he could imagine. He played his heavy heart out. Favre passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns a day after his father's death, moving into second place in NFL history for career TD passes while leading the Green Bay Packers to a 41-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Monday night. With one spectacular long pass after another, Favre decimated the Raiders' patchwork defense with one of the greatest performances in his 13-year career. He finished just 3 yards shy of his career high while sending the Raiders to their worst loss in eight years. Favre threw for a personal-best 311 yards and four TDs in the first half, quickly turning a crucial game for the Packers' playoff hopes into a blowout victory — and he did it on one of the saddest days of his life. Irvin Favre died of a heart attack Sunday night while driving near his son's hometown of Kiln, Miss. Brett decided to stay with the Packers (9-6) long enough to lead a victory that kept them in a tie with Minnesota atop the NFC North. Favre was 22-of-30, smiling and hugging his teammates throughout the game. In the fourth quarter, he embraced his wife, Deanna, before they headed home to Mississippi. Though the formula is complicated, Green Bay can all but clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Denver on Sunday — and if the Vikings lose to Arizona, the Packers will win their second straight division title. With the first of two first-half scoring passes to Javon Walker, Favre passed Fran Tarkenton on the NFL's career list with his 343rd career TD throw. The three-time MVP finished with 345, trailing only Dan Marino's 420. Favre got a respectful ovation from the normally vicious Raider Nation when he was announced as a starter in his 205th consecutive game, an NFL record for quarterbacks. - (Quality 9)
