(11-26-72) Washington Redskins @ Green Bay Packers - Washington's defense and two touchdown passes by Billy Kilmer provided the momentum for a 21-16 Redskin victory over Green Bay, sewing up a playoff slot. The victory, eight in a row for the Redskins, boosted their record to 10-1 and insured them of at least the "wild card" slot in the National Football Conference playoffs, no matter what happens in the final three games. The setback dropped the Packers into a tie for first place in the Central Division. Kilmer came through in the clutch after the Packers pulled within a point, 14-13, on MacArthur Lane's six-yard touchdown run with 12:39 left in the contest. The Washington quarterback responded by piloting the Redskins 83 yards for a key touchdown, hitting on five of five passes in the drive. The payoff came on his five-yard toss to Charlie Taylor in the corner of the end zone. Kilmer wound up the day by completing 14 passes on 21 attempts for 149 yards. The Washington defensive unit blocked one Green Bay field goal attempt, contributed a touchdown-producing interception and smothered the Packer's passing game. - original GOTW Highlights, color, 22 mins (quality 9)

Larry Brown, who sat out the last two regular season games, carried 25 times for 101 yards, the seventh time he passed the 100 yard mark this season. Chester Marcol's 17-yard field goal gave the Packers a 3-0 lead, but the Redskins scored the last sixteen points of the contest. The loss turned out to be the last game Ray Nitschke ever played for the Green Bay Packers. - Full game radio broadcast (CBS Broadcast) (2 CDs) Includes post-game locker room interviews

2001

(09-24-01) Washington Redskins @ Green Bay Packers - MNF - The contest marked the final game in the first weekend back for the NFL since the tragic events in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania on September 11th. The Packers welcomed the Redskins to Lambeau Field for the first meeting between these two teams since 1988. It wasn't about who won or lost, but just the fact they played the game. The pregame festivities included area firefighters and policemen holding an American flag shaped like the United States in the middle of the field. Country music star Martina McBride honored America with her rendition of the National Anthem. Perhaps one of the most awe inspiring sights for Packer fans was that of linebacker Chris Gizzi leading his team out onto the field proudly waving the Stars and Stripes. an entire crowd of 59,771 flag waving fans chanting "U.S.A., U.S.A.," greeted Gizzi, a graduate of the air Force academy. For the record, with three touchdown passes Brett Favre guided Green Bay to a 37-0 victory over Washington. The Redskins' Jeff George managed just 102 yards through the air as his team managed just 137 net yards on offense. Favre finished the night going 20-of-31 passing for 236 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Green Bay recorded its first shutout since a 28-0 blanking of the Raiders on Dec. 28, 1993, while the Redskins have failed to score a touchdown yet this season, losing to San Diego 30-3 two weeks ago. The Packers defense has not allowed a touchdown yet this season. Ahman Green was the workhorse of the Green Bay offense. He gained 116 yards on 25 carries to break the century mark for the second time this season. As the NFL's leading rusher, Green added six receptions for 30 yards. Washington's Stephen Davis grounded out 65 yards on 13 carries to lead the Redskins. Favre finished with 20 completions in 31 attempts for 236 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His rating was 106.4. - Includes commercials and halftime (Quality 8.5)

Favre, who started for the 164th consecutive time, sprained his left knee when he was sacked by LaVar Arrington in a victory over Washington. Ahman Green had the first three-touchdown rushing performance of his career, helping the Packers (6-1) to their fifth straight victory. Green ran for 88 yards on 24 carries and scored on runs of 24, 2 and 8 yards, the last one following Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey's fifth sack and third fumble, which was recovered by Rod Walker at the Washington 23 in the fourth quarter. - Includes commercials, halftime, Packers Blitz post-game show, and ESPN Primetime highlights from the game (Quality 8.5)

The Packers won their third straight game. The Redskins, trailing 20-14, thought they scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 43-yard reception by Clinton Portis with 2:35 to play. But the celebrations died quickly when the play was called back for an illegal-motion penalty on receiver James Thrash. On the next play, Al Harris intercepted Mark Brunell's pass and Ahman Green scored on an 11-yard run four plays later to seal the victory.
